Performing as a modem, the DTS communicates tactical command and control data between ship, shore and air platforms on the Link-11 system. Operators may choose to communicate individually, as a picket, or to perform as a Net Control System, fielding communications from the tactical data computer, standard control interfaces or from 1553 control. Operators may also use the integrated Link Monitor System to analyze link quality and solve communication issues in the network.

The DTS supports all standard net, station and timing modes. With the addition of an optional port, the DTS can also operate in digital mode, sending data over satellite, wireline or other tactical circuits. It can also be configured with Link-22 SPC for access to another communications network.
