ARLINGTON, VA. – January 10, 2023 – Leonardo DRS Inc., (DRS) will be participating in the Surface Navy Association expo between January 10th and 12th 2023 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City, Arlington, VA.  The company is a leading provider of next-generation electrical power conversion and propulsion technology, advanced naval sensing systems, and communication products for the U.S. Navy.  Its products support current and next-generation naval platforms across the fleet, giving warfighters the competitive edge today and in future conflicts.

The DRS booth will be located in booth #242 where we will be highlighting its advanced naval electric drive systems, tactical naval radar systems, and a range of other mission critical systems for next-generation submarines and surface ships.

Our leadership position in providing the U.S. Navy with the best technology available dates back to World War II, and today we continue that legacy as we support our Sailors with products that support a range of missions and helps to bring them home safely,” said Mike Coulter, Senior Vice President, Business Development. “We are excited to again display our technologies at the Surface Navy Association show and demonstrate why our technologies are capable of keeping warfighters mission ready.”

Leonardo DRS is a proud sponsor of the Anchor Scholarship Foundation’s annual Anchor Scholarship for the 2023 academic year. For over 40 years, ASF has aided the families of U.S. Surface Navy members in their higher education. During the Surface Navy Association’s 35th National Symposium, join us and donate and we will match donations up to $3,000. Learn more at: https://anchorscholarship.org/

Leonardo DRS Capabilities on Display:

SHINCOM 3100 – Control and manage every aspect of shipboard communications onboard or ashore. Integrated tactical, administrative, voice and data communications, the all-digital secure voice system interfaces, controls and manages every aspect of internal and external communications. Enables commanders and operators to communicate on multiple channels simultaneously without increased workload. The system architecture ensures continuity of communications in very adverse conditions with multiple levels of built-in redundancy and internal battery backup.

SHINCOM provides communications architecture for either new-build platforms or legacy systems. It is backwards compatible to provide improved capability and capacity, replacing legacy secure voice systems, tactical intercom systems and ship’s service telephone systems.

Zonal Uninterruptible Power Supply – Leonardo DRS has leveraged its experience in 440VAC power conversion to develop the next step forward in shipboard UPS reliability and availability. Our Zonal UPS features N+1 redundant hot-swappable 2kVA power and battery modules, and manual and automatic bypass, ensuring continuous uninterrupted operation of the load. Nominally rated at 8kVA, 450VAC, 60Hz, 3 phase input / output, the capacity of the Zonal UPS has the potential to be increased or decreased in 2kVA increments.

Maritime Multi-Mission Tactical Radars – Under the clutter of the dense maritime environment, early and accurate detection of threats is the vital link in the chain of effective defense. This is especially true in littoral waters, where lethal surface and aerial attacks can be mounted with little or no warning.

Incorporating decades of experience and a globally recognized track record of innovation, DRS’ pulse-Doppler software-defined, 4D AESA tactical radars provide hemispheric coverage around the protected asset.

Silicon Carbide (SiC) Power Electronics Module (PEM) – The Leonardo DRS series of liquid-cooled Power Electronic Modules (PEMs) advances solid-state conversion technology for improved power density, flexibility and maintainability. Since the development of our first baseline PEM in 2005 we have worked continually to improve capability while meeting stringent power quality and acoustic requirements.

Circuit Breakers – Leonardo DRS designs and manufactures MV and LV hardened circuit breakers for both Leonardo DRS-designed and customer-designed switchboards and loadcenters, which are typically mil-spec rated. The components can also be QPL-tested. These trusted, affordable circuit breakers are included on LHA 6, LHA 8, LCS, FORD-class and T-AKE surface ships. They will also be installed on newer LPDs and DDG 51 FLT III ships

Advanced Data Acquisition & Control System (ADACS) – ADACS is designed to prevent electrical explosions caused by “arcing” in shipboard medium- and low-voltage switchboards. An arc fault is a high-power discharge of electricity between two or more conductors. An arc flash is the pressurized blast of plasma and hot air that occurs when the arc strikes the conductors.

Link 22 Tactical Data Links – Link 22 is a secure beyond-line-of-sight communication capability that increases joint and coalition communications in the surface, sub-surface, land, and air domains by providing unprecedented situational awareness across the battle space. This new technology refresh of core hardware and software components provides a foundation that is expandable to platforms for years to come.
