Intelligence, Cyber & Electronic Warfare Systems (ICEWS)

In a dynamic world of rapidly changing technologies, capabilities, and threats, throughout the electromagnetic environment and in cyberspace, it is critical that governments and military surpass the pace of threats. Electronic Warfare (EW) solutions must provide disruptive capabilities while also delivering best value products, and responsive service. Because no one wants a fair fight.

Electronic warfare is the process of using the electromagnetic spectrum that surrounds us to our advantage, and limiting its availability to adversaries. At a high level, electronic warfare can be divided into three major areas: electronic attack (EA), electronic protection (EP), and electronic support (ES).

Leonardo DRS solutions include provisions for signals intelligence (SIGINT) and cyber operations. These capabilities defend our military’s networks and information systems while exploiting our adversaries’ communications through intelligence gathering, analysis, and dissemination, ensuring the right information flows to the commanders who need it, when they need it.

Our portfolio of hardware and software capabilities provide signal recognition, detection, identification, and geolocation in order to detect, exploit, and attack. Our hardware is aligned with the warfighter’s requirements for low size, weight and power (SWaP) without sacrificing high performance. The low SWaP form factors allow for multi-function EW (MFEW) capabilities where the equipment can be integrated into cross-domain platforms.

ICEWS Product Portfolio

Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA)

Blackstone Intelligence SensorOur ICEWS hardware adopts the Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) to ensure easy integration and interoperability with current military programs. Our commitment to open architecture standards is rooted in our design practices and results in low-risk solutions for our customers. We serve as committee chairman for multiple VITA standards and are leading participants of the MOSA, including SOSA, HOST, CMOSS, and OpenVPX efforts. This critical involvement ensures our products are interoperable across all military branches, program offices, and commercial entities.

Blackstone Intelligence SensorThe Blackstone sensor provides mission-critical intelligence to the warfighter by rapidly detecting and locating a wide range of threat signals, monitoring signals of interest, and supporting real-time analysis of the signal environment for electronic protection (EP) and electronic support (ES) operations.

Its low SWaP allows for soldiers to easily wear the sensor and features a low profile direction finding (DF) antenna. For ground vehicle operations, a mounting kit extends the utility of Blackstone to a stationary mast or moving vehicle operations. The Blackstone sensor and DF antenna are repurposed from their on-the-march configuration to the vehicle in less than five minutes.

Pitbull COMINT SensorThe Pitbull sensor provides modern signal communications intelligence (COMINT) and precision geolocation to aid in electronic attack (EA), electronic protection (EP), and electronic support (ES) operations. With dual agile transceiver sensors, Pitbull locates and monitors advanced signal emitters produced by adversaries. The sensor can be used as a single sensor, or networked with other Pitbull sensors to accomplish larger mission objectives.

With a compact, low SWaP form factor, Pitbull can be easily worn by soldiers or integrated into larger ground vehicle platforms to create a network of sensors. Similarly, it can take height in high altitude airborne missions without encroaching on the aircraft’s physical limitations.

Ridgeback COMINT SystemRidgeback provides ultra-fast scanning, signal detection, interception, direction finding (DF), collection, geolocation, measurement, analysis, signal recognition and the identification of conventional, modern, and agile signals for in electronic attack (EA), electronic protection (EP), and electronic support (ES) operations.

The robust system is operational for land, sea, and air platforms and features a fully-digital signal processing path with up to 18 wideband channels, each with a wide instantaneous bandwidth to ensure no signal is left uncovered.
