Leonardo DRS Wins Contracts Providing EW & Intelligence Systems for Programs of Record

ARLINGTON, VA, JUNE 23, 2020   ̶  Leonardo DRS, Inc. announced today that it has received two contracts for scan, collection, and analysis equipment in order to provide real-time high fidelity situational awareness and signal intelligence capabilities. The fixed-price contacts are worth a total of $12 million.

Under the first contract, Leonardo DRS will provide the Falcon SIGINT subsystem to a major DOD program of record. The system allows for the detection, identification and geolocation of signals by providing RF collection and digital signal processing between 20 MHz and 6 GHz. The Falcon houses up to 16 RF channels in a 2U, 19-inch rack mount chassis utilizing low power per channel. Its RF performance, including a dynamic range, tuning speed and phase noise performance, make it ideal for signal collection and analysis.

While the Falcon subsystem is a tried and true system serving the DOD community for the last 15 years, its next-generation predecessor, Vesper, offers a significant advancement in high-performance RF technology and dense channel packaging. Under the second major program of record, the company will provide 1U rack mount systems integrated with its Sparrow wideband high performance technology. These systems will perform SIGINT and radar warning capabilities as the front-end receiver for electronic warfare systems. The integrated rack system houses four, single-channel Sparrow VPX cards, covering the electromagnetic spectrum from 70 MHz to 18.25 GHz, providing 500 MHz of high performance, low spurious, instantaneous bandwidth per card.

“We are proud to provide these advanced systems to give our military the tools they need to conduct vital electronic warfare and signal-gathering operations,” said Steve Scalera, Vice President of business development for the Leonardo DRS Airborne & Intelligence Systems division. “These contracts showcase our on-going commitment to support programs that continue to protect our nation with intelligence capabilities, while we also continue to develop new and innovative technologies for emerging programs.”
