Real-time weapon simulation, a highly fidelity instrumentation data link, and onboard data recording to support post mission debriefing.
Leonardo DRS, as a principal subcontractor to teammate Rockwell Collins, will supply a next-generation tactical training system to the US Navy called Tactical Combat Training System Increment (TCTS) II. The system, an approved encrypted tactical training system, provides the first certified, Multi-Level Security (MLS) training equipment packaged in both airborne and ground equipment, allowing for tethered and autonomous operations. MLS provides secure interoperability between combinations of 5th-generation and 4th-generation aircraft, bringing significant training benefits to all participants in a simulated, high-threat combat environment. It has five times more network capacity than current air combat training systems. It uses the existing training range frequency spectrum for enhanced live player training fidelity and to increase the number of players participating in Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) training.
Leonardo DRS, as principal subcontractor to teammate Cubic Global Defense, is responsible for performance in all areas related to the P5 Combat Training System (CTS) airborne instrumentation subsystem to include real-time weapon simulation, a highly fidelity instrumentation data link, and onboard data recording to support post mission debriefing. The P5 CTS has set the standard for interoperable, joint, and multiservice and coalition training with more than one million flight hours of service, has been sold to US forces and via foreign military sales (FMS), and has also been sold via direct commercial sales internationally. Over 30 facilities and multiple air forces around the world are now flying the P5 CTS and a continuous block upgrade program ensures new technology is continually inserted in the P5 airborne and ground-based subsystems to keep combat capabilities on the cutting edge.
Leonardo DRS, as principal subcontractor to team mate Cubic Global Defense, is responsible for the development, performance, and sustainment of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) P5 Internal subsystem (JSF P5 IS). The JSF P5 CTS IS supports JSF-to-JSF training operations in addition to JSF-to-Legacy P5 CTS dissimilar air combat training. The subsystem is composed of a P5 internal instrumentation package and a P5 planning software application within the JSF Off-board Mission Support (OMS) system.
The JSF P5 IS instrumentation package is housed within the JSF and is connected to the JSF fiber channel interface receiving aircraft-provided weapon and position data to support real-time weapon simulations and real-time kill notification (RTKN). The JSF P5 IS outputs data for recording on the JSF pilot memory device (PMD) to support post mission debriefing and receives pre-mission data files from the PMD. The JSF P5 instrumentation package also incorporates a type one encrypted data link operating in the L and S RF bands.
Legacy P5 CTS pods are interoperable with the JSF P5 IS and legacy P5 ranges have the ability to decrypt the JSF P5 IS data link messages providing a real-time ground monitoring capability.
The Leonardo DRS Air-to-Air Range Infrastructure (AARI) System is used by the US DoD to support operational test and evaluation (OT&E) of the F-35 and other US front line fighter’s capability to shape the battle. AARI is internal instrumentation integrated within the F-35 and external pods carried on 4th generation fighter aircraft. AARI will be used to determine the adequacy of F-35 open air flight test trials by supporting battle-shaping of air-to-air engagements through modeling weapon fly-outs and accounting for endgame effects to remove aircraft “shot down” by another aircraft or ground threat.
The Multi-Range Instrumentation System (MRIS) is an extremely capable and versatile test and training system fielded in Taiwan. This system provides coverage for the entire Taiwan peninsula providing airborne and ground instrumentation with real-time weapon simulations, a highly fidelity instrumentation data link, onboard data recording, and post mission debriefing.
A comprehensive in-flight embedded training suite offers the whole spectrum of simulated training functions in flight and on the ground and provides both students and instructors with advance on-board simulations including a tactical scenario; presence of realistic computer generated forces; on-board sensors; weapons; and live, virtual, constructive capability to link aircraft with flight simulators.
This suite can support stand alone or multi-ship networked operations, with aircraft and simulators networked via a dedicated training datalink to exchange tactical scenario data with other participants.
