ARLINGTON, VA, October 11, 2021  ̶  Leonardo DRS Inc., announced today that it will grant up to $10,000 in contributions to help military families deal with breast cancer. The company’s exhibit stand at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) expo in Washington, DC, will go “pink” Tuesday, October 12, to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month and encourage event participants to join the effort and recognize friends and relatives who have battled this disease.

In partnership with The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF), Leonardo DRS is sponsoring a “Stick It to Breast Cancer” fundraiser at the AUSA trade show. The goal is to raise money for the Look Good Feel Better program in Bethesda, Maryland. The program gives active and retired military women, men and family members affected by breast cancer an improved quality of life as they undergo and recuperate from cancer treatment.

The money raised will also help HJF support the Clinical Breast Care Project, a Washington, D.C., area clinical research and treatment facility for military service members and family that helps lead the way in the fight against breast disorders and cancer. The center uses a multidisciplinary approach as the standard of care for treating breast diseases and breast cancer.

To participate in the “Stick It to Breast Cancer” fundraiser, AUSA show attendees can pick up a copy of the Defense News Show Daily on Monday, October 11th, with a breast cancer awareness sticker on the front cover. Show attendees can also pick up stickers at the Leonardo DRS booth. If attendees place the sticker on the recognition wall at the Leonardo DRS exhibit stand, adding the name of a loved one who has been touched by breast cancer, Leonardo DRS will donate five dollars to HJF to support the Look Good Feel Better program, up to $10,000.

HJF is proud to partner with our nation’s warfighters and their families. The Look Good Feel Better program offers services to those dealing with physical and emotional effects of breast cancer,” said HJF President and CEO Dr. Joseph Caravalho. “The Clinical Breast Care Project works to support those battling cancer by building collaborative research. HJF appreciates the generous contribution Leonardo DRS is making to both laudable efforts.”

“Once again, we are proud to partner with The Henry M. Jackson Foundation and their important work helping members of the military and their families deal with breast cancer,” said William J. Lynn, Leonardo DRS CEO.  “We are honored to be able to help this big-hearted program which continues to have a positive impact on people’s lives.”

The Look Good Feel Better program is a non-medical public service that teaches beauty techniques to people with breast cancer to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of treatment. The program includes lessons on skin and nail care, cosmetics, wigs and turbans, accessories and styling, helping people with cancer to find some normalcy in a life that is by no means normal.
