Stick It to Breast Cancer

Breast cancer awareness

Leonardo DRS will host a Breast Cancer Awareness Day in support of active and retired military personnel and their families affected by breast cancer.

October 2023 — The company is honored to partner with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) for the Advancement of Military Medicine for this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The company will be donating up to $20,000 to the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine to support the Look Good Feel Better program associated with the Murtha Cancer Center Research Program.

The Murtha Cancer Center at Walter Reed Bethesda (MCC) is a tri-service center where military beneficiaries can receive exceptional care in all disciplines of cancer treatment. The Center resulted from the integration of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, National Naval Medical Center, Malcolm Grow Medical Clinic, and the U.S. Military Cancer Institute. The center has over 330 board-certified oncologists and professional clinical and support staff who are highly specialized in all aspects of cancer care – from first diagnosis, through therapy and follow up care, to survivorship.  In addition, the center partners with the Uniformed Services University and the National Cancer Institute to provide excellent state-of-the-science cancer care.

This donation will benefit the Look Good, Feel Better program in association with the Murtha Cancer Research program.  This program teaches beauty techniques to people with cancer to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.

About the Program

Look Good, Feel Better is a free (to the patient), national, charitable program offered to any female patient, once, at any point in her cancer trajectory. It has been a program offered to HJF patients at Walter Reed for more than 20 years.

This program teaches beauty techniques to people with cancer to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. The program includes lessons on skin and nail care, cosmetics, wigs and turbans, accessories and styling, helping people with cancer to find some normalcy in a life that is by no means normal.

HJF advances military medicine for the mutual benefit of military and civilian health.
